Movie Review: Rurouni Kenshin

We were able to watch the live action film last Saturday. 

mike bought our tix last Friday online via smcinema website and printed the email 

additional P20 for convenience charge

Saturday came and we were surprised by the long lines at the ticket counter, 

but all we need to do is to scan this 

in this machine ( there were only 2 persons in the line that time)

and voila it printed our tickets, amazing! #firsttimers 

So how's the movie? 

As a Samurai X fan I would say, they brought back an anime character to life! (Ang galing 2x) \(^.^)/

I was able to see again Kenshin's stance and fighting style. I love sword battle scenes which looks like a very long and hard choreo, the sounds, the effects, lighting and there were no awkward anime-ish pause unlike other japanese movie I've seen. (ang sarap ulit ulitin!) 

 I always like Megumi even in the anime and in this movie it is realistically played by Aoi Yu. I'm just a bit bothered by Sano's darker skin? but that doesn't affect my overall rating for this movie.

And oh, watching it in front row with subtitle is absolutely ok naman pala. 

We decided to stay and finished the credits even it is in japanese lolz. It ended with an applause from the audience. :)

The good news is that it is  extended in some SM Cinemas until Dec 18!

Movie Review: Looper

With 90+% rating from Rotten,we have high expectations for this movie. 

Not that bad really but not an epic one.
This is a futuristic setting movie with time travel concept.
*Somewhat Spoiler* I also remember Naruto vs Pain episodes "Circle of Hatred" concept.

Well, we don't really like the unnecessary drama focus and intimate scenes, (this is R-16 btw) how could they add love scenes like that without so much art, eh? so common, If they made it to a fast paced movie with really great music maybe I'll like it.

But overall, still Ok, as a fan of Bruce Willis, it's good to see him again ^_^
When I first heard about this movie I thought it is not convincing for Gordon-Levitt to play the young Willis (aside from the fact that he looks patpatin!). Well, thanks to movie touch ups.

Movie Review: Dredd

I've seen Stallone's Judge Dredd before (when I was in grade school?), I already forgot the story but surely, it is completely different from this new Dredd.

I would say it is a nice and awesome movie, one of must-see movie!! I do expect a lot on how it will end, so it just feels like it lack something. Only that and everything else was fine. ^_^  

But oh, sadly, lots of deleted scenes because it is R-16. We really wished that they make it available here in both R-18 and R-16. We'll definitely watch this again without the cuts when the copy is out.

I love the effects (surely one of the great reason to watch it on big screen!) , sounds and the somewhat chaotic futuristic setting which is like District 9. Simple story and goal, (di siya nakakastress). If you've seen "The Raid: Redemption" (which is btw another must see movie) ...  you will know which is better clearly. (i won't spoil hehe) 

Side Story: Maybe the first time for mike and I to watch movie without movie food as we want to catch the 7:50 PM (bec the next is 10PM na) show and only have 5 mins left  O_O we hurriedly made our way from Robinsons Galleria basement to 4th floor, bought tix, tried but left the line for food at BK and KFC, dashed to comfort room, and the show started just in time we seated, haven't seen the trailers!! lolz

Rainy Day Movies

After spidey movie, mike and I looked forward to watch this movie :)

We planned to watch it Friday noon, one day after its opening, but but but mike (as usual) can't wait and so we went to Eastwood after work to catch its midnight screening @_@  Deprived of sleep but soo worth it!

Movie Review: The Amazing Spiderman

Last Friday June 29, mike and I watched Amazing Spiderman at Robinsons Galleria, 11:30 in the morning before going to work wehehehe (di naman kmi excited noh)
but of course I have to stay until 11PM at work  to make up for the time :)
We just don't like to waste time waiting for hours in  lines (like in Avengers) so early morning screening would be the best.

Movie Review: Avengers

As much as possible, we really like watching movie in Eastwood Cinema  and Podium too (my fave!)  but based on experience in Eastwood, for a superhero/kid friendly movie there'll be a chance to be seated with a babbling, all-knowing, noisy kid :/

Podium on the other hand would be jam-packed for sure (2 cinemas only) that I wouldn't risk sitting beside someone who loudly slurps their drink -_-

Next choice - Robinsons Galleria. I don't remember someone sat beside us everytime we watch movie in here :)  They have 10 cinemas and I don't have anything bad to say on the quality :) 

And so we brave watching Avengers on its opening day after work.

mike would be coming from makati so I went ahead and bought our tickets that took me one hour in line! I stood there for an hour (but I'm not complaining :) it just the feeling of imagining someone would announced that tickets were sold out already (noooo!))  

I was surprised that our tickets are handwritten LOLz. I got the 8:40 time. It was 7:30 already, mike was still stuck in traffic and I thought of checking out Cinema 9. 

As expected there's already a line for 8:40!!! So I thought of staying there instead of going somewhere and forever loose my hopes of getting the front seats. mike arrived past 8 while I was busy amusing myself by reading ebooks.

So finally after a long wait, movietime! We seated in front and no one sat beside us weeeee!

And all I can say is that we enjoyed the movie, mixed emotions here and there, and amazed again by Loki and Thor.  I do really wish they put a mask on J.Renner! what an awful acting!

Hunger Games vs Battle Royale

My hair is just too long to braid :/

I only read the Hunger Games book synopsis last year and it sounded to me like Battle Royale so I didn't bother to read it or even got excited for the movie. I already fed up myself with too much morbidity films in the past so the thought of another 'Battle Royale' made me cringed. I think I saw that movie twice.

But then it's a hype movie and that's already a very good reason to see it in big screen (twilight is an exception). But still I'm contemplating, but then again we have free Ayala movie pass so why not. And as if that's not enough, I decided to read the book as suggested by wonderwomanrises blog

I read the first few pages and when I get teary eyed, I put it down and decided to reserved my feelings for
the movie. Yep I can cope up with that as I love surprises.

Good thing I did read the first part for it is one of the 'part' they did not focus in the movie that I think they should have done so.

I can't blame those who said that this is very much like 'Battle Royale', for me it is indeed (the entire idea of fighting til one survives, the announcing of 'the fallen' and the tracker thing. Of course there are still distinct difference esp. the technology, plot and time setting. I really like the idea of the presenting the tribute, I find it awesome. I also like the first person experience and unusual camera angles. It was pretty good. But don't get me started when it comes to the love thingy (roll eyes. ack!)

And yes I cried, hate it I already know I will for I didn't put on some eyeliner hahaha mike is making fun of me  and oh it's not as brutal, bloody and gore as Battle Royale as I thought it would be.

Overall, I'm glad we saw the movie. Now I can read the book and wondering what's the story of the other two books. :)

For those who are still hesitant to watch this because of BR, let just appreciate the art. :) There are numerous spy, agent stories, vampires, drama, love story and action movies with almost same plot after all. :)
